Alan Storey

Artist, Set Designer and Fabricator.

Alan is a sculptor and installation artist working locally and internationally from Vancouver. He has a 40 year history of site specific Public Art making and is best known for the ‘Pendulum’ installation in the HSBC Bank on Georgia Street in Vancouver. Other noted projects are; ‘Urban Language’, in Montreal; ‘Slowswing with Panel Discussion’ in Olympia, Washington; and ‘Public Service/Private Steps’ outside the Environment Canada Building in Vancouver. Alan has received several awards for his work, including the Americans for the Arts ‘Public Art 2006 Year in Review’ for ‘Compass’ at the Bellevue City Hall in Washington State, and in 2009, was awarded ‘Public artist of the Year’ in the Vancouver Mayor’s Arts awards. Alan’s practice also includes gallery installations of site responsive, interactive works including an ongoing series of circumstantial drawing machines. 

As a set designer, Alan has worked mostly with dance. His sets are inherently interactive elements that are specific to their context.

Alan maintains his studio in Richmond BC and has worked with many other artist as a consultant, and with fabrication and installation services.
