Aluminum, steel, paint, air ventilation ducts.
Vancouver. 1992
This work is a series of four, four letter word groupings mounted in the frames of the exit ports from the underground parking ventilation system. Each word group is made up of four triangular rotating windmill elements that turn independently in the flow of air. There are three letters on each letter block. The letters in each grouping are tailored to four specific subject contexts. They are; Activity: work, rest, play; Weather: wind, rain, snow; Architecture: post, beam, door; Urban Space: city, land, yard. As the letters all rotate randomly, one occasionally sees the formation of these words flash by, along with many other combinations. A continuous output of nonsense and sense. The placement of the four vents at street level, in front of the building, plays with address and signage representation.
